UEA Assembly

On 30th September 2009 the University of East Anglia, Norwich hosted a workshop assembly with counterparts from the HE/FE community to discuss the options of shared services and the feasibility of regionally hosted data centres.

The two key objectives for the day were:

  • To produce a framework which could be used by other institutions who are considering offering a hosted shared data centre solution.
  • A business case for the University of East Anglia to offer a hosted shared data centre solution.

Facilitated by Yogi, and making the most of some whiteboard walls, four short sessions were run successfully and with collaborative working the day even managed to complete ahead of time. The four sessions covered;

  1. Challenge assessment – reviewing the challenges anyone completing a feasibility study would come up against.
  2. Probable and optional solutions – ways to resolve the different challenges highlights in session 1.
  3. Benefits realisation – what are the additional benefits (if any) of the solutions found in session 2.
  4. Framework drafting – putting the outputs of session 1, 2 and 3 into a logical order.

The final outputs of the assembly will be used by the SISP project over the next 6 months and will be made available when the SISP project completes at the end of March 2010.

Finally I would like to say a massive thank you to all those who attended, particularly those who had to travel.
